The Future of Job Corps Procurements

Awarding Postsecondary Credit to Job Corps Students
Job Corps awards many certifications that are awarded in colleges, yet our students generally do not receive the postsecondary credit they would if they completed the same coursework at a college. The good news is that most Job Corps centers already have access to accredited postsecondary courses on center (although you may not know it) and colleges are increasingly open to the development of articulation agreements. The webinar will be led by Job Corps’ largest educational provider, Penn Foster who will discuss how some centers are already giving students access to postsecondary credit through their programs, as well as Beth Brown, a BCL and former community college official who is an expert on the development of community college-Job Corps articulation agreements.

Leveraging WIOA and the Workforce System
The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) made substantial changes to existing law that are intended to promote cross-program collaboration. The Employment and Training Administration is looking for ideas (particularly in Job Corps procurements) regarding how Job Corps can leverage new models and what already exists in the rest of the workforce system, whether career pathways, sector partnerships, or other efforts. Join this webinar to hear about the new opportunities WIOA creates for collaboration, the major initiatives that are being implemented nationwide, and specific examples of how Job Corps can leverage the resources of the local workforce development infrastructure to provide better services to out-of-school youth.
